The right device
for what you want to do

There is no best device in absolute terms, only a device suited to a use. Three questions are usually enough to decide.

In practice

What a session looks like

Nothing spectacular: you settle in front of the device, you wait, you put it away. It is distance, duration and regularity that do all the work.

Distance

Between 15 and 30 cm for a panel, at or almost at contact for a belt. Step back to double the distance and you divide the energy received by four: it is the most underestimated parameter.

Duration

Most often 10 to 20 minutes per area. Beyond that, no further effect is added: the response to light is not proportional to the dose, it plateaus then declines.

Frequency

Three to five times a week in most of the protocols studied. Short, regular sessions are better than one long weekly session.

Patience

Muscular comfort is felt quickly; anything involving the skin or hair is judged over eight to twelve weeks. Take photographs before starting, it is the only honest benchmark.

The Understanding page contains a module that calculates the dose received in J/cm² according to your distance and your duration — more meaningful than a table of equivalences.

What to know before ordering

Situations that call for medical advice

Photosensitising medication in progress

Certain antibiotics, dermatological medicines, diuretics, anti-inflammatories and anticancer medicines make the skin reactive to light. The question should then be raised with the doctor who prescribed the medication, not with us.

Pregnancy, photosensitive epilepsy, active cancer

In these three situations, use is a medical decision. We will not sell you a device while telling you it does not matter: ask your doctor for advice, then come back to us.

Lesion, changing mole, unhealed wound

Any unidentified skin lesion should be seen by a dermatologist before being exposed, whatever the light source.

The eyes

You should never look directly at an intense light source. Powerful panels are supplied with goggles; for a session on the face, you close your eyes or wear the protection provided.

The devices we distribute are wellbeing devices. They do not make a diagnosis, do not replace any medical care and do not remove the need for medical advice. Our Science page presents the literature as it stands: promising for certain uses, still insufficient for many others.
